UTEM addresses artificial intelligence challenges in higher education
During its 45th-anniversary celebrations, the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM) addressed the growing challenges posed by artificial intelligence in higher education. Rector Marisol Durán Santis noted that while UNESCO data indicates high usage of AI tools among students and faculty, only one in five universities has established policies to guide its use.
Durán Santis emphasized that universities must navigate complex issues including academic integrity, data governance, algorithmic bias, the digital divide, and the environmental impact of technology. The event featured a keynote lecture by Alexis Montecinos Bravo, an AI specialist from Boston University, regarding the technological revolution in education.
