UTEPDA advances agroforestry projects in Barahona and Villa Jaragua

Nidio Encarnación Santiago, executive director of the Technical Executing Unit for Agroforestry Development Projects (UTEPDA), has conducted official visits to oversee agroforestry development projects in the Barahona and Bahoruco regions of the Dominican Republic.

In Barahona, Encarnación met with local authorities and technical staff to assess project progress and needs. The PDA Barahona initiative supports coffee and avocado producers by providing plants, agricultural inputs, and heavy machinery for the rehabilitation of roads to improve access to productive areas. The institution is also working toward issuing land titles to provide producers with greater legal security.

In Villa Jaragua, UTEPDA is coordinating with the local mayoralty to strengthen the impact of the PDA Bahoruco project. Key efforts in this municipality include the rehabilitation of inter-parcel roads, which facilitates the movement of producers and the transport of harvests. Encarnación emphasized that coordination with local governments is a central pillar of his management to expand the reach of agroforestry actions in rural communities.
