UTEPDA advances reforestation and agroforestry in Dominican Republic

The Technical Executing Unit for Agroforestry Development Projects (UTEPDA) is expanding environmental and agricultural initiatives in the southern region of the Dominican Republic. In the Yaque del Sur river basins, the organization has planted 7,000 trees along the Palomino route to protect water sources and restore forest areas. The planting included 5,000 native pines, 1,000 white cedars, and 1,000 cabirma santas.

Additionally, UTEPDA Executive Director Nidio Encarnación visited the Barahona Agroforestry Development Project to review progress in the Sierra de Bahoruco. The project supports coffee and avocado producers by providing agricultural inputs, plants, and heavy machinery for road rehabilitation. The institution is also working to provide land titles to beneficiaries to ensure legal security for farming families. Future efforts are planned for the Pedernales region, focusing on inter-parcel road rehabilitation and further agroforestry development.
