Utica considers changes to recreation fees and ski center pricing
The Utica Common Council is considering legislation to update city recreation fee codes that have reportedly remained unchanged since 1964. The proposal aims to eliminate residency-based fees for several activities, making public swimming, city-sponsored swimming lessons, and learn-to-swim programs free for both residents and nonresidents.
While the plan would remove costs for swimming, it would also change the pricing structure at the Val Bialas Ski Center by eliminating the distinction between resident and nonresident rates. Under the proposed plan, adult season passes would cost $110, an increase from the current $75 rate for Utica residents. Other proposed pricing includes $65 for the first child in a household (ages 6–18) and free access for children aged 5 and younger, as well as adults aged 60 and older.
The Common Council has not yet voted on the proposal. A committee meeting will be held to discuss the potential changes before the legislation moves forward.
