Utica Fire Department begins annual hydrant inspections

The Utica Fire Department is beginning its annual fire hydrant inspections throughout Utica, New York, starting Monday, August 31. The inspections are scheduled to continue through Wednesday, September 30.

Residents may experience temporary water discoloration, such as yellow or brown hues, as the opening of hydrants can disturb sediment in the water lines. Officials have stated there is no boil water advisory and the water supply has not been contaminated. Normal water pressure will be maintained during the process.

To avoid pulling discolored water into water heaters, residents are advised to check their cold water before use. If the cold water is discolored, hot water should not be used until the supply runs clear. Inspections will occur Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, and on Fridays from 9 AM until noon.
