Utility companies announce scheduled power outages in Ghana and Nigeria

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced planned and emergency maintenance works scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026. The outages will affect parts of Accra (west), Tema, and the Ashanti Region. These interruptions are intended to address technical challenges within the distribution network and facilitate system upgrades to improve service reliability.

In Nigeria, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has scheduled temporary power cuts in the Maitama district and surrounding areas. The outages are part of network rehabilitation efforts, including the potential replacement of transformers and repair of distribution lines, to improve grid stability. The disruptions in Maitama affect residential areas, commercial enterprises, government institutions, and foreign embassies.
