Utility customers protest rising electricity bills and service failures
Residents in different regions are reporting significant increases in electricity bills alongside ongoing service instability.
In the Los Olivos neighborhood of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, community members have reported that monthly billing for high-consumption categories has reached approximately 17 USD. Residents noted that these price hikes, part of a staggered increase policy by the state company Corpoelec, have not resulted in improved operational stability. The area continues to experience frequent power fluctuations and service interruptions.
In La Plata, Argentina, customers of the utility provider Edelap are protesting sharp increases in their electricity bills, with some reporting amounts that are triple their previous monthly costs. Beyond the financial impact, users have expressed frustration over inefficient service, including power outages occurring despite bills being paid in full and errors where customers are billed for amounts they have already settled.
