Utility price hikes spark protests in Ecuador and Argentina

In Tolhuin, Argentina, municipal officials warn that recent gas supply cuts and sharply rising bills are endangering families during a severe winter. Around 150 cuts were reported initially, followed by about 80 additional cases. Household gas invoices have jumped from roughly 20,000 pesos to as high as 300,000 pesos, leaving many unable to pay. The municipality is cooperating with the public defender’s office to help affected residents.
