Utility providers expand electrical capacity in Colombia and Dominican Republic

Utility companies in Colombia and the Dominican Republic are upgrading electrical infrastructure to meet rising energy demands.

In Dibulla, Colombia, Air-e Intervenida installed a new 12.5 MVA transformer at the Termoguajira substation. This replaces a 7.8 MVA unit, increasing transformation capacity by approximately 60%. The project, which includes a $2.8 billion COP reconfiguration of the Mingueo circuit, aims to benefit 7,451 users and support local tourism and economic growth.

In the Dominican Republic, the Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (EDEEste) has received the first three of 12 planned power transformers as part of a RD$515 million expansion program. These units will be installed in Boca Chica, Villa Consuelo, and El Brisal during September and October to improve load distribution and reduce operational restrictions in these growing residential and tourist areas.
