Utility service challenges reported in Chile and Argentina

In Chile, authorities are advancing plans to provide permanent electricity to the community of Sibaya. Regional officials, including the Seremi of Energy for Tarapacá, met with residents to discuss an electrification project involving the Municipality of Huara and the Regional Government of Tarapacá. The initiative aims to extend the distribution network to ensure a regulated, 24/7 power supply for local families.

In Argentina, residents of Villa Elisa are protesting persistent water shortages and the lack of effective response from the utility company ABSA. More than 80 families are affected by low water pressure that prevents tanks from filling. While the company has deployed water trucks, neighbors have rejected suggestions to install private pumps and cisterns, arguing that the provider must guarantee basic sanitary services without additional costs to residents. Repairs are reportedly pending budget approval.
