UTMB 2026: Julien Veysseyre makes history as first tibial amputee to finish

The 2026 UTMB ultra-trail race in the Mont-Blanc massif featured historic individual performances and sparked debate within the running community.

Julien Veysseyre became the first tibial amputee to complete the 170 km course. Despite facing intense pain and prosthetic issues, particularly around the Courmayeur section, Veysseyre finished with a time of 44 hours and 16 minutes. He completed the race alongside his two children.

Alexandre Boucheix, known as ‘Casquette Verte’, finished in 79th place with a time of 24 hours, 17 minutes, and 31 seconds. His performance was notable as a comeback following a fibula fracture earlier in the season. His final sprint toward the finish line generated significant discussion among spectators and fans regarding the compatibility of ‘show’ elements with the traditional ‘trail spirit’.
