UTMB Chamonix features new Kailas gear and Tarahumara runners

The UTMB event in Chamonix highlighted both technological advancements in trail running gear and the cultural presence of traditional runners.

Kailas introduced the FUGA EX PRO G, an evolution of its previous model. The primary update is the integration of a sock-like gaiter into the upper to protect against debris such as stones and gravel. The shoe retains technical features including an X-shaped full carbon plate for lateral adaptability, supercritical TPU midsole foam, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole with Litebase technology. It is designed for competition distances ranging from 30 to 100 km.

Additionally, the event featured participation from Tarahumara (Rarámuri) athletes from Mexico. Their presence provided a cultural contrast to the professional elite, showcasing a traditional approach to long-distance running rooted in mountain life and endurance as a daily skill rather than purely a technological pursuit.
