UTMB Mont-Blanc unveils new safety and environmental measures for 2026

The HOKA UTMB Mont‑Blanc race announced two major initiatives ahead of its 2026 edition. Starting in 2026 competitors must carry a headtorch capable of emitting a forward‑facing red light and use it while traversing the Contamines‑Montjoie Nature Reserve at night. The rule aims to minimise disturbance to nocturnal wildlife; non‑compliance can lead to time penalties or disqualification. Petzl is supplying free lightweight red‑filter accessories to help runners meet the requirement.

In parallel, the race organisers launched a humour‑driven awareness campaign titled “Le trail, c’est la liberté. Pas sans responsabilités”. Illustrated by Matthieu Forichon (Des Bosses et Des Bulles), the series of ten cartoons promotes responsible behaviour such as waste management, trail respect, sound reduction and protection of flora and fauna. The campaign is being rolled out across all event channels and in participating municipalities throughout the Mont‑Blanc region, with the goal of preserving the territory for future editions.
