UTMB World Series announces changes to qualification rules
The UTMB World Series has announced significant changes to the qualification system for its Finals, scheduled to take effect starting with the 2027 Majors. The new regulations will restructure direct qualifications obtained through the four Majors.
Under the current system, each Major distributes 210 direct qualifications, with 60 spots reserved for the top ten men and women in the 50K, 100K, and 100M formats, and 150 spots awarded to top performers in various age categories. Starting in 2027, the automatic qualification path for age-group runners will be removed. While the organization has promised a new system for the 2028 Finals to accommodate top runners from each generation, specific criteria and replacement details have not yet been disclosed.
This lack of clarity regarding the new sporting criteria and the transition period has caused uncertainty among athletes who must make training and racing decisions based on currently incomplete information.
