Utrecht and Delft propose changes to local parking regulations
The municipality of Utrecht is considering plans to increase greenery in the Leidsche Rijn Centrum area, specifically targeting Romestraat, Vallettastraat, and part of Berlijnplein. To facilitate cooling during heatwaves and improve water absorption, officials are considering the removal of two visitor parking spaces in Romestraat. A three-month trial involving a temporary planter with seating is underway to gather resident feedback. Residents can participate in the decision-making process through November 25.
In Delft, the introduction of paid parking in the Indische Buurt has raised concerns in the neighboring municipality of Rijswijk. Local officials in Rijswijk fear that residents from Delft will seek parking in the Vrijenban district to avoid fees, increasing local parking pressure. The VVD faction in Rijswijk has expressed concern regarding the lack of coordination between the two municipalities.
