Law enforcement conducts various operations in Belgium and the Netherlands
Law enforcement agencies across Belgium and the Netherlands have conducted various operations targeting drug trafficking, traffic safety, and housing irregularities.
In Belgium, the Westkust Police Zone arrested three men in Koksijde and Nieuwport on suspicion of drug trafficking. Additionally, in Puurs-Sint-Amands, police issued thousands of euros in fines during a heavy vehicle inspection, citing violations regarding dangerous goods, technical defects, and driving/rest time infractions. Authorities are also exploring the use of AI and ANPR cameras to automate the detection of mobile phone use while driving.
In the Netherlands, large-scale traffic controls resulted in numerous fines. In Utrecht, officers used a touring bus to observe drivers from an elevated position, issuing 106 fines for mobile phone use within six hours. In Helmond, a major check led to 111 violations and the collection of over 33,000 euros in outstanding debts. In the Laak district of The Hague, a multi-agency operation uncovered significant housing misconduct, including illegal rent increases, improper mediation fees, and unsafe living conditions, alongside illegal trade and vehicle tampering in local businesses.
