Utrecht police officer will not face prosecution for kicking woman

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie) has decided not to prosecute a police officer involved in an incident at Utrecht Centraal station on January 26. The decision follows a conflict involving two women, which was captured on video by bystanders and sparked significant public outcry.

According to the prosecution, the officer's use of force was lawful. The investigation concluded that the officer used a defensive kick to create necessary distance and space to complete an arrest after being obstructed and harassed by bystanders. The prosecution stated that even if other options were available, the action was not unlawful given the circumstances.

Lawyer Anis Boumanjal, representing the women involved, stated he will thoroughly study the prosecution's reasoning. He is considering an 'article 12 procedure' to request the court to compel the prosecution to proceed with the case.
