Utrecht to host National Repair Week in October 2026

The province of Utrecht will host the National Repair Week from October 10 to 18, 2026. Organized by the Natuur en Milieufederatie Utrecht (NMU) in collaboration with municipalities, Repair Cafés, and local initiatives, the event aims to promote repair and reuse to prevent valuable resources, energy, and money from being wasted.

The initiative coincides with the implementation of the European ‘Right to Repair’ regulations in the Netherlands, which will require manufacturers to offer repairs for certain products even after the warranty period expires. Pauline van Norden, project leader for Circular Society at NMU, stated that while the right to repair is essential, repair services must also be local, affordable, and easy to find.

Local organizations and neighborhood initiatives will provide practical help for items such as lamps, vacuum cleaners, and clothing, fostering a community focused on extending product lifespans rather than replacing them.
