UTSA student apologizes for poem celebrating Charlie Kirk assassination
Isa Casahuga, a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, has issued a public apology following backlash for a poem she recited that celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The poem, delivered during a Turning Point USA “Pick up the Mic” event in September, included references to a “shot to the neck” and an invitation to a “Squirt for Kirk” event.
In a scripted video apology, Casahuga stated that her comments were “beyond inappropriate and hurtful” and expressed regret for the pain caused to the Kirk family and event host Christian Collins. She noted that her faith teaches the importance of humility and compassion, and emphasized that political violence is never acceptable.
Critics on social media have questioned the sincerity of the apology, with some alleging it was prepared by legal and PR professionals following a university conduct review.
