Utsunomiya police chase collision injures two boys

In the early hours of September 14, a police patrol car collided with a motorcycle in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, resulting in injuries to two boys on the motorcycle. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 AM on a city road in the Interpark area.

According to the Tochigi Prefectural Police, officers in their 20s and 30s were pursuing the motorcycle in an emergency vehicle after observing it run a red light. The collision happened on a straight stretch of road following a curve, where the left side of the patrol car made contact with the motorcycle, causing it to overturn. Both boys were conscious when transported to the hospital and are reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

While police stated that the decision to pursue the vehicle was lawful, they are currently investigating whether the specific methods used during the chase, including speed and following distance, were appropriate.
