Indian states announce free bus travel for women for Raksha Bandhan

Several Indian states have announced free bus travel for women to celebrate the Raksha Bandhan festival.

In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced free travel for women in all categories of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses, including AC and non-AC services. The facility includes 100 e-buses in the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Authority regions, where women may also bring one companion for free. Additionally, the state will provide scooties to 50,000 female graduate students in the coming months and is establishing hostels for working women named after Ahilyabai Holkar.

In Gujarat, the State Transport (ST) Corporation is deploying 6,500 additional buses to manage festival crowds. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has also declared free travel for women and children on all 150 electric city buses.

In Bihar, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) will offer free rides to women on all its buses, including inter-district services, for a period spanning August 27 and 28.
