Uttar Pradesh approves 25 lakh free tablets for youth

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the procurement of 25 lakh tablets to be distributed free of charge to eligible youth. This initiative is part of the five-year ‘Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme’ (Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana), which aims to enhance digital access and technological capabilities among students.

The state government has earmarked Rs 2,374.60 crore for this scheme in the 2026-27 budget. The distribution will target students enrolled in various programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, skill development, paramedical, and nursing courses.

To facilitate the rollout, the government will issue purchase orders to institutions selected through a tender process. Students will receive the devices directly from their respective universities, colleges, or institutes. The program is designed to help students access educational materials, receive updates on classes, and connect with various government and non-government schemes related to employment and self-employment.
