Uttar Pradesh approves advanced weaponry for VIP security
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a major police modernization plan to upgrade VIP security and strengthen law enforcement across the state. Under this initiative, security personnel protecting public representatives will replace traditional weapons with 800 advanced 9mm sub-machine guns and 256,000 cartridges, a procurement costing approximately 5.59 crore rupees.
The plan also focuses on empowering the three newly formed female battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). The government has allocated roughly 2 crore rupees to equip these units with 373 advanced pistols and 90 assault rifles.
To bolster security at high-sensitivity locations—including the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Rapid Rail (RRTS) networks, metro stations, Lok Bhavan, and the Allahabad High Court—the Special Security Force (SSF) will deploy snipers. The state has approved the purchase of three high-capacity, multi-caliber sniper rifles capable of using 12.7mm, 14.5mm, and 20mm rounds, with an effective range of up to 2,300 meters. Additionally, 14 telescopic search mirrors will be acquired to enhance surveillance and security checks.
