Uttar Pradesh Assembly Monsoon Session Begins Aug 3 Amid Calls for Extension

The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will convene its monsoon session on 3 August 2026, scheduled to run for four days until 6 August. Speaker Satish Mahana said the opposition will be given full time to raise issues under the rules, and warned against any reduction in speaking time.

Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and MLA Ravidas Mehrotra, criticised the brief four‑day schedule, arguing it is insufficient to discuss pressing matters such as the electricity crisis, unemployment, school closures, the Ram temple case and student protests. BSP president Mayawati also urged that the session focus on public‑welfare issues rather than partisan disruptions.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the session will include legislative work and the presentation of a supplementary budget aimed at improving lives in the state. The opposition has pledged to raise a range of issues during the debates, suggesting the session could become contentious.
