Uttar Pradesh bans traffic on Delhi‑Haridwar highway during Kanwar Yatra

The Uttar Pradesh police have imposed traffic restrictions on the Delhi‑Haridwar National Highway and the adjacent Ganga Canal road in anticipation of the annual Kanwar Yatra. Heavy vehicles, including trucks and twelve‑tyred trailers, will be barred from July 30, while a complete ban on all vehicle types will be enforced from August 4 to August 12.

A dedicated lane on the highway will be reserved exclusively for kanwariyas. To enhance pilgrim safety, police divers will be stationed at major bathing points along the Ganga Canal, and a temporary police outpost has been set up at Rampur Tiraha on the Delhi‑Dehradun National Highway, staffed by about 20 officers under Sub‑Inspector Subhash Chand. The measures apply primarily to the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Officials cited include Traffic Superintendent Atul Kumar Chaubey, District Magistrate Umesh Mishra, and Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjai Kumar, who coordinated the deployment of resources for the pilgrimage scheduled from July 30 to August 11, 2026.
