Uttar Pradesh BSP selects candidates for 25 assembly seats
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati announced that the party has finalized candidates for roughly 25 of the 403 seats in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. She emphasized that the final decision on all candidates rests with her, dismissing rumours that national coordinator Akash Anand has been given authority over selections. Mayawati said the party’s regional office in Lucknow has already held several meetings to guide district‑level officials in the nomination process, and that rallies are being organized to publicly announce the chosen candidates.
State president Vishwanath Pal reiterated that BSP will contest the election alone, with no alliance with other parties, and that any coordination by Akash Anand is carried out under Mayawati’s direction. He described the ongoing organisational campaign, the appointment of local conveners, and the party’s intent to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the vote. The announcements come as BSP’s electoral fortunes have declined, winning only one seat in the 2022 election.
