Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath calls on youth to pledge tree and water conservation

On June 1, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a public appeal ahead of World Environment Day, urging the state's residents—especially youth and children—to commit to protecting trees, conserving water, and revitalising rivers. He highlighted the cultural reverence of nature in Hindu tradition, noting that trees, rivers and mountains have historically been viewed as divine.

Adityanath stressed the importance of everyday actions such as planting a tree on birthdays and supporting the "one district, one river" programme, citing recent successes like the expansion of the Shekha Lake bird sanctuary and the addition of new river‑restoration sites. He called for collective participation to ensure a clean, safe and prosperous environment for Uttar Pradesh.

The message was shared on the X platform and aligns with broader state initiatives to enhance ecological stewardship and improve water resources ahead of the June 5 World Environment Day celebrations.
