Uttar Pradesh chief vows uninterrupted power supply during heat wave

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed state officials to maintain continuous, high‑quality electricity amid a severe summer heat wave and rising demand. In a meeting with Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma, State Minister Kailash Singh Rajpoot and senior power officials, he ordered constant monitoring of generation, transmission and distribution.

He highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh Power Generation Corporation’s installed capacity has risen to 13,388 MW, including 9,120 MW from thermal plants and over 500 MW from hydro projects, with an additional 3,742 MW from joint‑venture schemes and roughly 10,000 MW from non‑conventional sources. The transmission network now covers 60,858 circuit‑km, serving 715 substations and 2,05,632 MVA, with availability at 99.30 % and losses reduced to 3.2 %.

The chief also stressed rapid response to storms, noting that recent May cyclones affected 38 substations and 326 feeders but were quickly repaired. Transformer damage has fallen dramatically—about an 80 % decline compared with 2022‑23—thanks to enhanced safety measures and accountable repair processes. These steps aim to prevent power shortages for households, farmers, traders and industries throughout the peak temperature period.
