Uttar Pradesh CM Orders Probe into Temple Ornament Theft Scandals

Allegations of large‑scale theft of gold, silver and cash offerings have surfaced at two prominent Uttar Pradesh temples – the Ayodhya Ram temple and the Madura Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi shrine. Monks and temple administrators claim that devotees' donations have been misappropriated, with one petition stating, “பக்தர்கள் காணிக்கையாக வழங்கும் தங்கம், வெள்ளி, ரொக்கப் பணத்தில் முறைகேடு நடக்கிறது.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been urged to sanction a special investigation team (SIT) to examine the alleged financial irregularities and recover the missing assets, which some claim amount to roughly ₹1,000 crore. Temple officials have both defended their management and called for a government‑led inquiry.

The controversy has sparked protests by Hindu organizations, including a rally in Jammu and Kashmir led by Jamiat‑Ulema‑e‑Islam leader Manish Sahni, who demanded stricter state control over major temples and the formation of a “Hindu Protection Board.”
