India achieves 85 medals at Asian Games as UP distributes student scholarships
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated the transfer of over ₹148 crore in scholarships and fee reimbursements to more than 4.60 lakh students. The funds are being sent directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts to ensure transparency and prevent misappropriation. Adityanath noted that the current administration has increased scholarship funding significantly compared to previous years, aiming to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder educational pursuits.
Separately, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders have lauded the Indian contingent for its performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India finished fourth in the overall medal standings, securing a total of 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze. Notable achievements included gold medals in men’s and women’s cricket, kabaddi, and hockey, with the men’s hockey team securing a victory over Malaysia to defend its title.
