Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announces ₹1,500 monthly pension for seniors and destitute women
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a new welfare scheme on June 15, marking Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The state government will provide a pension of ₹1,500 per month to senior citizens and destitute women, aiming to ensure a dignified life for these vulnerable groups.
The announcement also linked destitute women to existing health and housing programmes such as Ayushman Bharat, Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, and state housing schemes. The CM emphasized that respecting elders is a core value of Indian culture and cited religious stories to underline the importance of caring for older family members.
The scheme is intended to address the growing number of empty homes and elder-care homes in the state, and to promote physical and mental well‑being through initiatives such as yoga, which coincides with the International Yoga Day theme of "Yoga for Healthy Ageing".
