Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath inspects 495 crore Godhaiya Nala project in Gorakhpur

On July 22, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a ground inspection of the Godhaiya Nala drainage scheme in Gorakhpur, covering two locations near Fatima Hospital and the jail bypass. The project, valued at 495 crore rupees, includes a 9.5‑km concrete drain, 18 km of sewer line, a 36 MLD sewage‑treatment plant, 14 bridges and 61 MLD pump stations, with road and foot‑path infrastructure planned alongside.

During the rally, the CM claimed that the previous Samajwadi Party administration allowed land‑mafia activities that cheated landowners, and that the BJP government has provided “respectful compensation” to those affected. He emphasized that the revived drain has already prevented waterlogging in 17 northern wards of the city during recent heavy rainfall, and urged citizens not to dump waste into the canal. The drainage is expected to channel rainwater for the next 50‑100 years, directing flow from Ramgarh Tal and Tarkulani to the Rapti River.
