Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai detained during Ayodhya Ram temple visit

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai was placed under police custody in Ayodhya after arriving to visit the Ram temple. The Congress party alleges the state government ordered his detention at his hotel, accusing the ruling BJP of suppressing dissent and threatening his safety. Rai’s wife, Reena Rai, said her husband was taken without information about his whereabouts and warned that his life was in danger.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi responded to the incident, defending the legal process and warning against politicising religious matters. Naqvi referenced recent court rulings, including a Kerala High Court decision, and criticised the opposition for creating confusion over the SIR (Special Investigation Report) and other political issues.
