Uttar Pradesh: Doctor dismissed after Dalit woman gives birth on roadside
A woman from the Dalit Mushar community in Uttar Pradesh was forced to give birth on a roadside after she was allegedly denied admission to a government hospital. The incident, which occurred in the Bhadohi region, gained widespread attention after a video of the event circulated on social media.
The woman's family alleged that hospital staff refused admission based on her caste and claimed a staff member demanded 10,000 rupees for the delivery. While the hospital superintendent, Nirmala Sahu, has rejected the allegations regarding bribery, she confirmed that security personnel have been reprimanded and an investigation is underway.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered an inquiry. As a result of the investigation into medical negligence, the doctor on duty was dismissed from service, and other hospital staff faced consequences.
