Uttar Pradesh Election Commission orders voter roll scrutiny
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, has ordered a comprehensive scrutiny of all voter registration forms entered by computer assistants since the conclusion of the Special Intensive Revision on April 10. This directive covers Forms 6, 7, and 8, which are used for adding new voters, objecting to inclusions or deletions, and making corrections to existing entries.
The order follows allegations from the Uttar Pradesh Congress regarding large-scale manipulation in the Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency. Officials reported finding irregularities in over 10,000 electoral roll entries in that area, where it was alleged that thousands of voter names were replaced while serial numbers remained unchanged.
To prevent further issues, the Election Commission has barred computer assistants from the task of entering application data. Instead, physical forms submitted by voters must be digitized by booth-level officers using the official BLO App. Officials, including electoral registration officers and district election officers, have been warned that they will be held accountable for negligence or irregularities under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
