Uttar Pradesh government approves free LPG cylinders for Ujjwala beneficiaries

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the continuation of a scheme to provide free LPG cylinder refills to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. During a cabinet meeting, the decision was made to provide one free refill during the Diwali festival and another during Holi.

For the 2026-27 financial year, the state government expects to spend 2,142.78 crore rupees to support this initiative. The first free refill is scheduled to be distributed between October and December 2026, with the second occurring between January and March 2027.

To qualify for the benefit, beneficiaries must have a bank account linked to their Aadhaar card and complete the necessary Aadhaar authentication. The government stated that this measure aims to encourage the use of clean fuel among poor families, reducing the health risks associated with traditional cooking fuels for women and children.
