Uttar Pradesh government launches winter road safety plan
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a comprehensive safety plan to mitigate the increased risk of road accidents caused by dense fog and cold waves during the winter season. Relief Commissioner Dr. Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod has directed relevant departments to ensure all safety measures are implemented promptly.
Key measures include the deployment of ambulances, patrolling vehicles, and rescue units near accident-prone areas on national highways, state highways, and expressways to ensure rapid medical assistance for victims. To improve visibility for drivers, authorities will repair and clean road markings, including white lane lines, reflective indicators, cat's eyes, and directional signage.
Additionally, the government will increase monitoring at turns, intersections, and crossings. Enforcement actions will also be taken against unfit or unsafe vehicles, including those modified through unauthorized means, through joint inspections by the transport department and traffic police.
