Uttar Pradesh government receives 116,000 applications for mass marriage scheme
The Uttar Pradesh government has received over 116,000 applications for the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana (Chief Minister Mass Marriage Scheme) for the 2026-27 financial year. The state has set a target to facilitate marriages for 72,540 couples during this period, with 28,833 marriages already completed.
Sanjeev Singh, Director of the Social Welfare Department, stated that 34,845 applications have been approved so far, while 11,679 were found ineligible during the verification process. The scheme provides a total of 100,000 rupees per couple to support economically weaker families. This assistance is distributed in three parts: 64,000 rupees is transferred directly to the bride's bank account to help establish a household, 21,000 rupees is allocated for wedding gifts, and 15,000 rupees is provided for wedding ceremony arrangements.
To ensure transparency, the government utilizes e-KYC and the e-District portal for the digital verification of income and caste certificates. Payments are processed through an Aadhaar-based system to ensure funds reach the linked bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
