Uttar Pradesh Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Hit Over 30 Districts

India’s Meteorological Department has placed more than 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh on high alert as a monsoon system brings heavy rain and thunderstorms to the state and 19 other states. Alerts cover districts such as Saharanpur, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Varanasi and many others, with warnings of 70‑80 km/h winds, large hailstones and lightning. Schools up to class 12 were closed in 13 districts due to flooding and water‑logging.

A separate forecast from the state’s local meteorological centre predicts rain and thundershowers on Monday in eastern and isolated western parts of Uttar Pradesh. Recorded rainfall this week ranged from 12 mm in Gorakhpur to 35 mm in Meerut, while seasonal totals show deficits of up to 88 % in some eastern districts and surpluses of over 190 % in western areas such as Meerut and Muzaffarnagar. Temperatures are expected to stay between 26 °C and 36 °C.
