Uttar Pradesh husband arrested in Rs 44 lakh insurance murder plot

Police in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh arrested Amar Singh and three accomplices after uncovering a scheme in which Singh allegedly murdered his wife, identified as Rita (also reported as Reeta), and tried to stage the death as a road accident to claim a Rs 44 lakh life‑insurance payout. Singh had filed a missing‑person report for his wife before the body was found near the Baithka Dham Temple; forensic examination revealed multiple external injuries inconsistent with a simple accident. Investigators say the motive was financial distress, noting that the couple had taken out a substantial insurance policy on the wife’s name only weeks before the incident. The case was solved within 48 hours, and the accused were taken into custody pending further legal action.
