Uttar Pradesh increases Anganwadi worker salaries and benefits

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has announced a significant increase in the monthly honorarium for Anganwadi workers and helpers. Under the new structure, Anganwadi workers will see their monthly pay rise from ₹8,000 to ₹12,000, while helpers will receive an increase from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000. This decision directly impacts approximately 2.91 lakh workers across the state.

In addition to the salary hike, the government is introducing several welfare measures. These include an annual cashless health insurance cover of up to ₹5 lakh for workers and their families, an increase in the annual provision of uniforms from two to three sarees, and the distribution of smartphones to facilitate digital data entry and nutrition tracking.

The revised rates are set to be effective from September 2026, with the increased payments expected to be reflected in the October 2026 disbursements. The administration noted that the hike accounts for the expanded responsibilities of these workers in early childhood care and nutrition services.
