Uttar Pradesh launches Aadhaar services in 110 gram panchayats

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has begun Aadhaar enrollment and update services in 110 gram panchayats across six districts. The rollout, overseen by the Panchayati Raj Department and its director Amit Kumar Singh, aims to let rural residents obtain or modify Aadhaar cards without travelling to towns. More than 75,000 Aadhaar transactions have already been processed through the new digital service centers.

The initiative plans to expand to all 57,694 gram panchayats in the state, with an initial target of 5,000 villages. Panchayat assistants have been trained as Aadhaar operators; over 1,200 have received initial training, 179 operator IDs are active and 157 Aadhaar machines have been installed. Officials say the scheme will save time and money for villagers and generate additional revenue for the panchayats.

The programme is presented as a step toward turning village panchayats into digital citizen‑service hubs, extending government services to the grassroots level.
