Uttar Pradesh launches free bus travel for senior women
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a scheme to provide free travel on State Roadways buses for women aged 60 and above. An allocation of 100 crore rupees was included in the first supplementary budget for FY 2026‑27 to fund the programme, with reimbursement to the transport corporation.
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said the initiative will give economic relief to millions of senior women for religious, social, family and health‑related trips, enhancing their independence and dignity. The scheme is part of a broader set of women‑welfare measures announced by the state administration.
