Uttar Pradesh launches multi‑billion‑rupee highway projects, approves ₹60,000 crore infrastructure plan

In Lucknow, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated three national‑highway projects costing more than ₹4,850 crore. The projects include the 63‑km Kanpur‑Lucknow six‑lane expressway (≈₹4,200 crore) that cuts travel time to about 40 minutes, a 23‑km multi‑layer corridor on Shaheed Path, and a four‑lane upgrade of the Hardoi‑Lucknow ring‑road with a flyover at Engineering College Chowk.

Gadkari announced that the state has secured approval for over ₹60,000 crore of new infrastructure projects. The plan will link northern and southern districts with new expressways such as the Eastern, Ganga, Bundelkhand, Lucknow‑Agra and Gorakhpur link corridors, provide bypasses for every city with a population above 500,000, and connect each district headquarters with four‑lane roads. The developments are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time and fuel consumption, boost trade, tourism (including pilgrim access to Lumbini, Nepal) and generate substantial employment.

Overall, the initiatives aim to transform Uttar Pradesh’s transport network into a world‑class system, supporting industrial growth and broader economic development across the state.
