Uttar Pradesh holds MLC elections for teacher and graduate seats

Voting is underway across Uttar Pradesh for 11 Legislative Council (MLC) seats, comprising six teacher segments and five graduate segments. Over 1.4 million voters are participating across 72 districts, with 2,697 polling stations established to facilitate the process. The elections feature 152 candidates, with significant competition expected between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP).

In the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teacher segment, 54,910 voters are casting ballots across 17 districts. The primary contest involves BJP candidate Dhruv Kumar Tripathi and Samajwadi Party candidate Dr. Sanjayan Tripathi, with independent candidate Dr. Ajay Singh also in the race.

In Agra, following allegations of irregularities during the teacher segment voting, a proposal has been submitted to the Election Commission of India for re-polling at three specific booths: Booth 20 in Kheragarh, Booth 21 in Saiya, and Booth 26 in Fatehabad. The commission's decision on these requests is pending. Results for the 11 seats are scheduled to be announced on October 27.
