Uttar Pradesh police kill reward‑carrying murder suspect in Pilibhit encounter
On June 28, police in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh shot dead 23‑year‑old Shivam alias Sarvjeet, a criminal wanted in the May 28 murder of cloth trader Pappu Gupta. The suspect carried a cumulative reward of Rs 1.75 lakh. During the operation he and an accomplice attempted to flee on a motorcycle, opened fire, and were engaged by officers. Two police personnel were injured and received medical treatment. A semi‑automatic pistol, a country‑made firearm and a large quantity of cartridges were seized from the scene. Superintendent of Police Sukirti Madhav Mishra said the suspect had multiple criminal cases, including two murders, robbery and intimidation, and that the police acted in self‑defence after the suspects opened fire.
