Uttar Pradesh Police release Mohammad Junaid and family after arrest over Jantar Mantar protest

Mohammad Junaid, a volunteer for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), alleged that Uttar Pradesh police detained him and his relatives because he was providing food and water to protesters at the Jantar Mantar demonstration. The police reportedly raided his home in Ghaziabad, questioned his father and brother, and seized identity and financial documents. Junaid also claimed that his sister’s family in Meerut was similarly targeted.

On July 26, Junaid’s lawyer announced that Junaid and his entire family had been released from custody. The release was confirmed by a family member. The police have not provided a detailed explanation for the arrests, and earlier incidents involving a different Mohammad Junaid were noted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, though it has not been established that the two cases involve the same person.
