Uttar Pradesh probes alleged embezzlement of Ram Temple donations

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IGP Kiran S has been formed by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the alleged theft of donations meant for the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. The SIT was ordered by the Supreme Court to submit a status report within two weeks.

Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad described the alleged diversion of funds as a "dacoity" and blamed members of the BJP and RSS, praising party leader Akhilesh Yadav for raising the issue. Meanwhile, legal‑aid counsel Kulshekhar Singh, representing the accused, says the Ayodhya police charged the case under incorrect sections of the BNS Act, mixing theft and embezzlement provisions and applying a life‑imprisonment clause. Singh plans to petition the court for a revision of the charges and to seek bail for the accused.
