Uttar Pradesh resident files complaint against rain god Indradev
A resident of Nevadda Paras village in the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh has filed an official complaint through the state’s public grievance portal against the Hindu rain god, Indradev. Suraj Tiwari, the complainant, blamed the deity for incessant rainfall that has disrupted daily life, inundated low-lying areas, and raised concerns regarding potential crop damage.
Tiwari stated in his complaint that he did not possess the deity’s mobile number and requested that the district magistrate use “divine means of communication” to direct Indradev to stop the rain.
The unusual filing follows severe weather across the region. In Hardoi, district administration reports indicate that between September 25 and 27, the rainfall resulted in seven deaths, seven injuries, 30 cattle deaths, and damage to 330 houses. Across the wider state of Uttar Pradesh, relief authorities have reported at least 56 deaths and damage to more than 1,000 homes due to the rain spell.
