Uttar Pradesh students protest for basic school facilities

Students in government schools across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan staged protests demanding essential amenities such as safe drinking water, functional fans, electricity, clean toilets, adequate furniture, libraries and computer labs. The largest demonstration occurred at Sarvodaya Inter College in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where around 1,500 pupils staged a six‑hour sit‑in. The District Inspector of Schools, Rakesh Kumar, visited the campus and gave written assurances that corrective work would begin within 24 hours, after which the school was closed for the day.

In Rajasthan, pupils also locked gates of schools in Barmer and Jalore districts to press for the appointment of teachers, highlighting a broader shortage of staff in government schools. The protests reflect growing frustration among the Gen Alpha cohort over the gap between education policy promises and the conditions in many public schools.
